Welcome to 2018. A time for reflection again. For those of us who have already made amends to continue in the New Year and for those of us who haven’t quite managed to start, to try to give things a go.

Although the New Year can bring challenges, it can also bring positivity where we didn’t think we could be positive. It’s a new start, one day into the New Year and it needs a different approach from us. It’s a time for us to reflect on the previous year to see where we can make the relevant changes and begin to make those.

There's little point waking up on the first day of a New Year and keeping things the same, if those things didn’t work. Although it’s hard, it’s important we use this time to carve out our lives in the New Year, in the way we want our lives to go.

My mum (and I go back to this) used to say, ‘you’re a long-time dead.' It’s important we make our life as we intend it to be, so that when it’s our time, we’ve done what we set out to do and so that we live without regret.

Make your life about you in 2018. That doesn’t mean selfishly think about yourself and no one else. It means thinking about what’s being asked of you and decide whether what’s being asked is right for you.

In my growing up years, I spent too many years not thinking about my own needs. It is important to take control back from those who continue to take advantage, from those who should know better, but choose to play things their way.

It is time to make 2018 your year. Another year means it's up for grabs, for you to make your own mark. It's another year to change what is.

    1. That's great. I'm pleased that my reflection blog ties in with your own thoughts.

This is how I live my life. I say how things are because paving over the cracks so things look better or rosy doesn't help me.

Sadly, it just adds to my stress, fear and anxiety because it's not a true representation of what's going on.

  1. Yes, this is the time of year where everybody makes resolutions for the 1st and have broken them by the 2nd.

In my world it happens to just be another day and I have to look at it that way, since I have wasted far too much of my life only focused on yesterday and all the things that I couldn't change.

I have to stay focused on today and what things I can change, which is usually just things in my life. Trying to change other people is definitely a lost cause, as I have spent far too long trying to do it.

They will only change if they actually want to, which isn't very often; when the things they are doing work for them, even if it's at the expense of other people's happiness, like I have been dealing with for almost 12 years.

It's definitely time for a change in my life, even though I know it's going to be so very unpleasant, but hopefully worthwhile in the end.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, it's not for us to change others, you're absolutely right. Instead we must change ourselves and our attitude on what we deal with.

The past is gone. Our experiences need to stay firmly in the past. A New Year is always a good starting point to make the changes we need to make.

  2. I've decided to act in my own self-interest this year, since the weight of the world has been on me for too long.

It's time to try something new for a change.

    Happy New Year everyone!

    1. Yes, Happy New Year. Your life is for you to live Tim. I absolutely agree. I've been there, got the tee-shirt sadly.

We get one crack at the life thing. It's not selfish to want to have some of that for yourself.
