How we respond to mental health is important if we are going to stay well. I have seen first hand how we can get sick, when we fail to deal with mental health. Also important is how we choose to seek meaningful connections, resulting in positive emotions such as peace, gratitude, acceptance and contentment.
Do we ever think about our wellbeing? Do we continue to push ourselves? Are others relying on us, because it’s what they’ve always done, and we don’t want to let them down? Are we ignoring our mental health and playing catch up and do we feel we're beginning to struggle?
We compromise our wellbeing
We compromise our wellbeing for others. Instead we need to think about self-love, about self-care, we should learn how to self-soothe. The negative effects of stress when our wellbeing is affected, can lead to a drop in mental health, in our wellbeing; in our personal performance, in how we feel about ourselves, about our accomplishments and about our life.
Families have been touched by mental health
My family have been touched by mental health twice, and now my twin is terminally ill. She has struggled with mental health issues throughout her life and in Covid-19 she has very much been touched by mental health issues. We may choose to ignore our mental health, or ignore the fact that we have mental health issues. Many of us in fact, may not understand what mental health means.
But mental health issues may always become physical health challenges when past or current issues aren’t dealt with and mental health isn’t under control. We may trade on resilience when we ignore the signs. But when things are under control, we may leap back, we may rebound, and we may stay in control.
Mental health is the foundation
Mental health is the foundation to wellbeing. How many of us understand the correlation of wellbeing and mental health. I didn't understand initially, but with work on myself I began to understand. In these incredibly difficult times, it has become even more important for us to be well, for us to continue to work on ourselves and our mental health. How many of us really do that?
