World Cancer Day is an International Day marked on 4th February each year to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. Its goal is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer.

I Am and I Will Campaign

This year marks the launch of the 3-year ‘I am and I will’ campaign. ‘I am and I will’ is a call-to-action urging personal commitment from us, by advocating increased awareness and accurate information and knowledge to help us recognise early warning signs, make informed choices about our health, and address common misconceptions about cancer.

Cancer

This is especially important in terms of the early detection of cancer. Not all cancers show early signs and symptoms. However, many cancers can and do show signs that something isn’t quite right. It’s important to know because finding cancer early can make it is easier to treat, and in some cases even cure.

Conclusion

That means improved chances of survival and quality of life for people diagnosed with cancer. A recent UK study found that for eight common cancers survival is three times higher when diagnosed early. Having lost a grandparent, mother and father to cancer, I think it's important we look at mental health, lifestyle, environment, and nutrition. It is also important we continue to advocate improving cancer awareness. (Source: worldcancerday.org)

    1. Yes, having had three close relatives die of the disease I also believe it is necessary to increase awareness.

I also believe we must do everything we can to keep illness away and look at things like lifestyle including things like environment, diet, exercise and mental health.

All of those things play a big part in our lives, particularly mental health; keeping our emotions and thoughts positive.
