One thing I have noticed is that many people have a hard time sitting still for any length of time. I believe the expression used to be "ants in their pants" like my rather seemed to have, unless he was too drunk to walk straight.
I'm sure that is why it bothers me so much when my girlfriend can't seem to sit still. It's a constant struggle for me to remain calm, which I have had to work on. It just winds me up.
Thinking about it now, I'm sure that stems from always having to be on guard because we never knew what was coming next from my parents.
It makes me seriously consider buying a house in the backwoods of Maine and living like a monk for the rest of my life!
Thanks Randy. Yes, and I believe when you're happy with yourself, you will be happy to remain calm, be in your own company and still still.
I also believe the emotions play a big part in our mental health and our past. It can't have been easy for you. When anyone loves their own company they won't mind spending time in solitude.
That said, there is sitting still, meditating and quiet contemplation. We should learn how to just 'be okay with ourselves.'
Being alone with your thoughts as a means of relaxation, and sitting in quiet solitude is good for the soul.
You're absolutely right, we should... but we don't. I agree. Doing nothing is better than being busy doing nothing.
Yes, we can do nothing and achieve greatness. We can sit, do nothing and think about what we want out of life, and come away with new thoughts about how we see ourselves.
We can think about what we want out of life, or we can be busy doing nothing and literally achieve nothing. I think that when we get to know ourselves from the inside out, we do achieve a lot more.
We're a lot more proactive for one, even if we do sit down for a short while.

We should all learn to take time out of our increasingly crazy lives to do nothing, once a day.
Instead of mentally and physically revving ourselves up as we do, we should let ourselves just be, relax and recharge the batteries.
After all, doing nothing is better than being busy doing nothing.

When my heart and esteem are fragile I usually like to be alone, doing absolutely nothing. Life seems less torturous there.
I'm with you Tim. Yes, it's comfortable, it's familiar and you don't have to think. In fact you don't have to do anything, you just have to sit.
