  1. It does seem like I have been trying to live someone else's life for such a long time, by not knowing what to do with my own.

I had chances to be happy and let them get away from me, by worrying more about what other people would think of me and those are regrets that I have to learn to live with.

I have spent so long just being a chameleon, by trying to change to fit into this group or that one, when it wasn't the person I really wanted to be.

I was made to feel very guilty as a child for wanting to live my own life, but I am no longer a child even though inside I still feel like one.

My daughter taught me the lesson that I need to live my own life and stop trying to help people who need to learn how to help themselves.

I do have the right to be happy and comfortable in my own skin even if others don't like it.

    1. Yes you do. Your daughter is right, you need to live your own life. It's absolutely right to want to help others, but those you're trying to help have to help themselves first.

My mum used to quote: 'God helps those who help themselves' and although I am and practice spirituality, the analogy is the same and absolutely right.

We must help ourselves first, before we can help others. If we don't help ourselves, we can't expect others to be able to help us and things change for us.

We must and have to be proactive in our lives for things to change. Therefore, we must help ourselves.

  2. It took me a while to realise that I ought to be living my life. I wasted too much time trying to please others for nothing.

So many people spend much of their lives in unnecessarily concerning themselves over others' expectations of them. We should all have the courage of our own convictions and follow those instead.

    1. Thanks. Yes, you can't be blamed for that. It's easy to get caught up in the moment, so much so we're not always aware of what's really going on.

We're also looking for acceptance, as humans that's what we do. But I think you're right we must have the courage of our convictions to move away and look after ourselves.

We literally spend too many wasted years trying to please others, we fail to please ourselves. That was my downfall for years.

  3. This inspirational quote made me go weak in the knees, by making me see beyond the noise around me.

By that I mean: to trace the source of my happiness, which is actually me.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes, you've answered your own thinking when you say, 'by that I mean: to trace the source of my happiness, which is actually me.'

Yes, you're absolutely right. I love this.
