"It’s a completely different world without my twin and I'm now having to navigate a different life. It feels strange, unfamiliar. It’s a place I don’t recognise. It’s numbing and heavy all at once. This is not how it was supposed to go. Going through the ageing process on my own.
For the first time in my life, I am trying to figure out how to build a life on my own – it feels different from anything I’ve ever known. It’s difficult, complex, it's complicated, I'm still a twin. Others – family, still see me as one. They still define me as one. It's lonely. It's not the life I expected, nor the one I anticipated. Each day feels uncertain, in an already changed world that feels incomplete without her.
But even in the emptiness, I am learning more about myself without my twin. I am discovering new strengths. Yes, it’s not easy, and some days it feels impossible, but I keep moving forward – I know I have no choice.
It will never be the same. I will always carry the weight of her absence, what’s missing; but I am slowly learning to live with it, to find my own way – to continue to press on with my purpose through my writing. My twin would want me to do that."
