BBC Children In Need – 15.11.2024
"It's heartwarming to see events like Children in Need where children are so well-supported by their families and communities. Watching the kindness and care they receive, I am reminded of just how different my own childhood was.
It always hits, it hit me hard this year. I grew up angry, facing struggles I didn't understand, grappling with physical, mental and emotional challenges that I didn't have names for. It wasn’t until much later in life that I learned I had cerebral palsy and autism. It leaves me feeling both sad and frustrated.
But seeing the support, love, resources and opportunities available to children today fills me with both joy and a twinge of sadness for the younger me who didn’t have the support. But it also brings hope, because this is what progress looks like – a world that understands, embraces and uplifts those who need it most.
It’s a reminder that even if our childhoods were far from perfect, we can still be part of building a better future for the next generation. By sharing our stories, showing empathy, compassion and supporting initiatives like Children in Need, we play a role in creating a world where no child has to navigate their struggles alone. I am all for positive change and to see smiles on these children's faces.
What Children in Need does, is remind us that we can all aim to move towards a brighter, a more inclusive future – one where every child feels seen, supported and valued for who they are – that we can all be part of building a better future for the next generation."
