Something inspirational:

Although we cannot personally change things that happen in our past because those things are firmly part of our past, we have the potential to change aspects of our past through new understandings, attitudes and perceptions.

Unfortunately, without letting go of the past first, our attitudes and perceptions will never change, nor will our understanding of how we can change certain aspects of our past.

  1. Yes,changing our attitudes is one of the most important things that we can do to better our lives!

It's so very hard to learn to let go of the past which is one of the other things that needs to be done. People are so often really set in their ways even though their ways aren't working but it's what their used to.

Most of my life has been living that way, which really isn't much of a life to speak of. My recovery program has helped me to learn how to focus more on the things I can change and to not get so stuck on the things I can't!

The hardest part is learning the difference between the two.

    1. Thanks Randy. It's great that your recovery programme helped you to focus more on the things you can change, so that you don't stay stuck on the things you can't.

The hardest part is learning the difference, you're absolutely right; but through our experiences and with a positive attitude, we will learn when it's time to let go.

  2. My past is very much alive; it can be controlling and manipulative depending on how loose it is leashed.

And my past can be my future in the rear view mirror if I'm not willing to change my attitude and perceptions with my growth.

  3. Great post. I've learned that we can change our attitude and our perceptions and that is especially important when that is all we can change in a situation.

What's done is done, but we don't have to carry it as baggage if we can change our mindset. It's taken me a long time to realise I can do that. It is quite empowering, as it takes away the burden and actually empowers.

    1. Thank you. Yes you're absolutely right. It's also very liberating when at the moment when we come to realise we don't have to carry an issue and that we have a choice.
