Every action causes a consequence, a consequence that can either make our lives easier, or can make our lives more difficult. Some consequences may be reversible, others set in concrete, that will change our lives forever. We live the consequences of our actions and other people’s every day. Our lives are the result of our actions, and of our actions towards others.

Goodness and Good Deeds

If you put out goodness, if you do good deeds, you will reap the benefits of both. Our thoughts and feelings, the way we deal with situations have consequences. It is the consequences of our actions that create our and others' realities, that shape our and their future.

We Control How we React

We cannot control other people’s actions, or the consequences of their actions, but we can control how we react against their actions. What we feel and think will produce a certain reaction and experience for us. Most of the time we are aware of our actions, and their consequences. Some of us will without thinking the consequences through, others will think an action through, but will fail to understand what the consequences are.

Balance and Reaction

Life is about balance. For every action there is a balance and a reaction. Every action we take comes with a consequence. For example, if we drink too much alcohol, we know we will feel the effects – physically and mentally. If we fail to manage our finances well, we will struggle with financial insecurity. Awareness and responsibility help us to create the balance we need to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease. When we recognise how our choices shape our reality, we give ourselves the opportunity to make better choices.

Another Person's Karma becomes Your Karma

Not everyone will know how to work out what the consequences of an action might be, or what a consequence of someone else’s actions might be. That part is sometimes a little more difficult to work out. But if like me you do good deeds, you may still fall foul to the consequences of another person's actions. Their karma becomes your karma.

We should understand equal and opposite reactions, then more of us would do the right thing. We don’t, because we think we will get away with our actions. We never can.

  1. My parents never seemed to think about the consequences of their actions. They set a lot of very bad examples for us as kids.

They always made it seem like no matter what we did, our lives would always suck, and there wasn't anything we could do to change that fact.

It's no wonder that I made so many mistakes and thought I was powerless to change things. What I have learned in the last year is that I'm far from powerless, and that there are things that I can do to change my life and for the better.

The most important thing is that I need to remember to focus on the things that I can change and not dwell so much on the things that I can't, which is what has kept me paralysed for most of my life.

    1. Thanks Randy. Yes, some parents have a habit of doing that. What a parent does will always have a knock-on-effect on their child.

Children learn from their parents. If parents teach children about consequences early on, they would learn to do things right, more than they would learn to do things wrong.

Some consequences are inevitable, but the hardest pill to swallow are the consequences brought about through other people. Integrity and moral compass are everything.

We are less likely to have to deal with consequences through good moral standing.
