Now that all restrictions have been dropped in the UK, there is no testing and no wearing of masks, there is still a minority of people wearing masks.
People close to me have now got Covid, and who had been safe for two years. In one of those cases a social date was organised, no testing was done and only when the meet up happened, was a cold mentioned and it turned out that person had Omicron. If a test had been done, that person would have known about Omicron and the meet up wouldn't have happened.
The UK Government's actions
The UK government's actions are not in touch with reality, if they think this isn’t going to backfire. While there is no testing, while masks are not being worn, Covid will continue to strike; therefore it is important to continue with the common sense precautionary measures that continue to keep us safe.
With Covid, you can never know for sure who is carrying the virus, because not everyone gets symptoms, and they don’t always know they have it, until they start to feel poorly.
It makes sense that since we're dealing with a virus, the virus can lay dormant in the body, until such a time we begin to feel ill and then it may resurface again. The Covid vaccine and boosters need to do more to protect, because currently you can still catch and spread the virus with them.
Precautionary measures should continue
Also, some people with low immunity can have a low or absent antibody response, after two doses of the Covid vaccine, a study in the UK has found, but unless the lateral flow tests are continued and masks continue to be worn by the wider public, the virus will continue to run. It doesn’t have anything to lose, but we do.

You're right - irrespective of what we're being told the virus is waiting to catch us out. If anything immunity is waning, as previous vaccinations and boosters are wearing off.
Three members of my own family, have caught the virus in the last couple of weeks and there isn't a day that goes by without me speaking to someone who has it, or recently had it. Indeed when I last looked at the daily infections in England, this has doubled to around 80k/day.
Until governments choose to accept the need to retain certain measures, such as mask wearing in public places, shops etc and peoples attitude change, there will be no let up and the terrible impact of the virus, felt in 2020 will be back to bite us, with a vengeance.
Yes, people are falling like flies. It's madness, stupid when governments put politics and the economy before people.
As you say the virus is out to catch us and it doesn't care. I am hoping for a change in attitude from Governments, but failing that a change in attitude from us instead.
It's not difficult to behave in a way that protects us and helps protects others too. This is what you get when you don't care to make a difference.
I am home because I am high risk and cannot get back into my life, but also I am taking the sensible option, by choosing to keep myself safe.
Others remaining safe even if they're not staying home, would keep me safe when I do go out. Herd immunity doesn't work, instead it's costing more illness and lives.
Hi there. I'm one of those people who have just caught the virus for the first time. I work in a primary school, where it was inevitable, as the government removed the protections last month.
I'm really angry that I've been forcibly infected ( the way I see it) and the children I work with are already on their 3rd or 4th infections (again, forcibly infected).
When I return to work, I will be masked because I do not want this again and as CV, cannot risk the repeated damage this virus will do to my body. In fact, nobody, whether they have pre-existing health conditions, or not, should risk repeated infections for this reason.
I'm now food shopping on click and collect again, as so many people are unmasked now in shops. And avoiding other shops generally, apart from the pharmacy.
This is all only serving to divide people now, into those who don't care and lead their lives as normal, and those (like us) who feel unable to do normal things because others don't care, and don't mask, or attend work when they're positive.
At least we can support each other online and reach out. We mustn't feel alone. We're not! Much respect to you for sharing your experience.
Hi Lisa, welcome to the site. I am high risk and at home now because restrictions have been lifted. It is my recurring nightmare.
I can't get into my life because of lifting restrictions, therefore my biggest criticism has to be the UK government's handling. As you rightly point out, the repeated infections, particularly of school children, would be totally unnecessary if precautionary measures were in place.
Whilst scientists have proved the physical precautionary measures work, that's not in the best interest of the UK self-serving politicians who only look to serve themselves and career progression.
Thank you for wearing your mask, because you're keeping others safe. Being forcibly infected will become a reoccurring problem for many, if scientists aren't able to sort out the issues with the current vaccine formulations.
With or without the jabs, you can still catch and spread Covid, therefore the vaccines aren't effective enough.
