A passing thought:

Why we should use good manners? For those of us who are lucky to have been brought up that way, good manners allow us to put others at ease, whilst encouraging us to act with consideration and respect. They should be an essential part of society today, but don’t seem to be. Whether good manners are something you’ve learned from your parents or your grandparents; they’ll never be wasted. I know it feels good to be courteous. Being kind to others makes them feel comfortable too.

  1. So true! Good manners are very important in my book.

I taught my daughter to have good manners and I'm working on B with good manners. He already says "yes mama", "yes sir" etc. and he is only 4 years old. I grew up using good manners and still do.

But I don't see it often enough in today's youth. There is a lot of things that have changed since I was growing up like you eat what's on your plate not what you want.

A lot of kids these days just don't have the respect that we were taught to have and good manners are a major part of that.

    1. I totally agree with you Lisa; but with a new generation comes a new way of teaching.

The old fashioned values and take on manners doesn't exist for some and for others their manners are obvious. It's a shame.

  2. I agree. In my view there is no excuse for bad manners. Good manners start at home.

Well mannered parents generally understand the importance of well mannered children so the cycle continues.

  3. Yes I always say thank you if someone helps me with a door or something else.

I remember my mother teaching me as a kid to say please. We would never get what we wanted unless we said it. Lessons well learned.

You are right, kids today are not taught manners. Sad commentary on society. But kids that are raised well will turn out well. My brother's children are an example of that.

    1. I totally agree with you Randy.

I was taught to be well mannered and like you didn't get something unless I said please or thank you. Testament to good parenting.

It's nice to see that your brother's children have been taught the same way.
