I work with difference. Covid impacts differently, and there are disparities in the pandemic, which have now become more noticeable now that all precautionary measures are lifted in the UK.

My Mental Struggles

I struggle to comprehend my life now, how we got to this place, how the UK have lifted all precautionary measures and how it is possible to co-exist in a country where the vulnerable and clinically vulnerable are in their homes.

It is difficult to see how in the longer-term this can be sustained, without there having to be a rethink, on whether some physical measures are reintroduced, when cases continue to rise.

We should all have been able to get back into our lives

Whilst it is important to get back into our lives, it should have been equally available to all. We’re talking about the pandemic, and societies in which people are vulnerable. (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) There is no UK government plan for the vulnerable.

A Divided Country

By the UK PM, not continuing to implement the physical precautionary measures that is keeping vulnerable groups safe in Covid, he has divided the country and has made the 'vulnerable more vulnerable.' Also, ending the test and trace system has affected everyone, but it is putting the vulnerable more at risk if they catch Covid.

Requiring mask wearing in public places and public transport, could help everyone go about their lives safely without catching Covid. Society is now divided with some groups less equal than others. Being vulnerable, I continue to struggle with that concept.

The night times are the worst. I go to bed unsettled as it hits me, the house is my institution, and I try to reconcile once more.

Living with Difference

Seen, Misjudged, Rarely Understood For most of my life, I lived in the dark. Not because I didn't know I was different, but because I didn't yet have the understanding to explain why life always felt harder than it seemed to be ...

4 comments on “How Vulnerable Groups are left behind in Covid”

  1. I am seeing healthcare professionals maskless now, further indication that we are on our own in our fight against Covid.

Of course, all of this Covid chaos can be avoided if people just use common sense, The CP Diary sets the stage for that.

But I note that the ignorance of our time is problematic, almost scary.

    1. Thanks Tim! Yes, the facts don't change just because they're ignored. We can all get sick without sticking to the physical precautionary measures.

That's been proven and is a fact. I am high risk. Wearing masks, is not only a kind thing to do, to help people like me stay safe, but it keeps everyone safe. Food for thought today.

I am irritated that I am high risk and you say healthcare professionals are going maskless, since 1000's of patients pass through their doors every day, why?

I thought they were in this for the long haul?

  2. I read stories like this every day on the BBC News website. The minority including yourself, simply don't have a voice now restrictions are lifted. As one headline read, 'less restrictions means more restrictions.'

I am hoping the UK government's handling of the pandemic will be reflected in the ballot box.

I am increasingly concerned that the lack of any credible opposition even in the face of many 'own goals by Johnson and his chums' will hand him another term.

    1. Thanks. Yes, exactly! I hate what's happening in politics right now. Every which way you turn, there's something to think about.

Yes, quite. That is right, for anyone vulnerable and high risk, we have our work cut out to stay safe.

Something in politics needs to change. Sowing one seed at a time through my writing. I pray something changes 'our' fortunes and soon.
