When we let someone go, we often do it with a heavy heart. It's because of a heavy heart that it's important not to look at why you let that person go – but instead understand the reasoning behind your decision.

Holding onto Pain

It is much harder to hold on to the pain that comes with the relationship, than it is to let go of the person who caused the pain. We should put distance between us, the person and our pain. It helps to understand the person behind the deed.

When we can understand why someone chooses to do something, we understand why something happens the way it does. If it's abuse, it is completely inexcusable.

Admit the Truth and Accept what Happened, Happened

On our part, we should admit the truth and accept that what happened, happened. When we let someone go, we’re allowing ourselves to heal.  It is much better to be away from someone, than thinking that person can change.

Conclusion

Too often we give someone 'the benefit of the doubt,’ because we're desperate for the relationship to work. Work on actions instead of words. As children we continue to believe what we're told, but words mean nothing, unless they are accompanied by a positive act.

  1. Letting people go is essential for growth and prosperity.

We need to let people, places and things go if we really want to move forward in life.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes, where it is clear people are holding us back it's right to let go. As you rightly say, in some cases it is essential we let go, particularly if we are to pave the way for emotional growth and prosperity.

I believe it is important we learn to live presently. Not many of us understand what that means. That even though we are physically living our lives, too many of us are mentally stuck in the past.

  2. Letting go of someone is never easy, especially if this person played a meaningful role in your life but sometimes we have to move on and I see that as a positive part of our journey.

    1. Agreed. Yes, it's not something we see or feel at the time, but it becomes obvious further down the line.

If like me you believe things happen for a reason, in time you will inevitably see the reason. I believe the universe acts and that is not for us to question, but it is for us to understand and act accordingly with its teachings.
