Low Fat Spaghetti Bolognese
'This is a quick and easy recipe that takes about 5 mins to prepare'
Ingredients:
2 tsp olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 sticks of celery, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
500g Minced turkey breast
400g canned Chopped tomatoes
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp dried oregano
400 g whole-wheat spaghetti or wheat free spaghetti
Shaved Parmesan and a few basil leaves to serve
Salt and black pepper to taste
Method:
Heat the olive oil in a saucepan
Add the chopped onion, celery and carrot and cook over a low heat, stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes or until the onion is translucent
Add the garlic and cinnamon and cook for another 10 minutes or so until the onions are soft and golden in colour
Add the turkey breast mince or soya to the pan and raise the heat to moderate
Cook, stirring constantly, for 3-5 minutes or until the turkey is crumbly and has turned white or until the soya mince is cooked
Add the canned tomatoes and balsamic vinegar and stir
Bring to a boil, then and simmer for 10-12 minutes until the sauce is thick
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to the boil
Add a little oil as this helps to stop the pasta sticking
Cook the spaghetti according to the instructions
Drain and keep warm
Add the dried oregano to the turkey/soya sauce and stir to mix
Taste and adjust the seasoning if required
Add the sauce to the spaghetti in a large serving bowl
Add the Parmesan, basil leaves and freshly ground black pepper and serve straight away
Cool recipe. I like the vegetables in it. I've never used cinnamon in a pasta dish before. Sounds interesting.
Including cinnamon in the recipe gives it a sweet taste without it being too sweet. It really does add to the dish. You'll love it.
This sounds terrific; can't wait to make it!
Would love to know how you got on Maria when you do!
Looks and sounds delicious. A dash of Worcestershire sauce and a cup of red wine would add that final touch.
I agree. I also agree that adding those final touches to the dish would enhance it even further. Nice weather would go down a treat too!
