It’s that time of year where I get to reflect on the year. The highlight to the year has been the publishing of my book Cerebral Palsy: 'A Story' Finding the Calm after the Storm.

Second 'book edits'

I have shied away from writing about Brexit on my blog recently because my attentions have turned to more positive things. I have been working on the edits for my second book, due out in the summer of 2021.

We have also had the pandemic to deal with this year and UK Brexit to contend with that comes into effect on the 1st January 2021 after 4 years of negotiations with the EU. I am so irked, because the best deal the UK had, was the deal they already had.

The 2016 'referendum'

With one more day to go until the UK is out of the EU and the EU becomes assigned to the history books, the UK government are not agreeing they were wrong for calling the 2016 referendum.

It's been made clear through the process that politicians have an inflated sense of their own importance and are not accepting of other people’s opinion, unless another person’s opinion is their own.

The 'pandemic' and 'global warming'

With the pandemic also to contend with and global warming, it makes it even more important countries and politicians work together. Hardships will continue once the UK is permanently out.

The cost of Brexit

This is when ordinary people, begin to count the cost of what Brexit really means, including shortage of food and medicine, loss of jobs, a lowered economy. The end of a very bad year and I can’t wait to see the back of it. Our problems have only just begun.

But I am choosing to believe there is still good out there and that good can prevail. I’m closing the year on a more positive note, with my second book publishing next year.

  1. One thing that this year has proved is that in the end, people will choose to do only what's best for them.

In the UK, it was the Brexit issue and in the US it has been politicians arguing for about 9 months, rather than helping the people.

It has been extremely obvious that we have needed to work together to survive this pandemic, but from what I have seen that isn't happening.

I am hoping and praying that 2021 will be a much better year, but I won't be holding my breath! Congratulations on publishing your 2nd book; I definitely can't wait to read it.

    1. That's kind Randy, thank you. I agree, it seems to be like that. When the chips are down you would think mankind would want to redress the balance. But leading by example is important and that desperately needs to change.

I never intended to bring politics into my blog, my blog was for me to get my own thoughts, my experiences out on what I had to deal with. But through autism, I deal with anxiety and blogging about the things I struggle with, includes what is happening out there.

I am aware I am not always in a position to change what is happening out there, but sowing a seed is just as important, if not more. Without sewing a seed things can't change, but with there is an opportunity to change.

  2. I am looking forward to closing 2020 and to a more positive 2021 and the year in which we get to grips with the terrible pandemic.

Also I am so pleased with the election of Joe Biden and hopeful that he will bring a new era to US politics and an end to the dicisive last 4 years. Here in the UK we have another 3 years to wait for any change.

I am delighted to hear about your new well deserved book and like Randy, I too can't wait to see it published and to read it. In the meantime I wish everyone here on The CP Diary a very happy and healthy new year.

    1. Thank you. Yes Happy New Year to you and all my readers. I wish everyone a year of peace and if that isn't possible, an easier year.

I think attitudes matter and just by coming in with a different attitude, lives will change. It is important we all come together in 2021.

Politicians now have a chance to change the way they deal with each other moving forward and put 2020 behind them. Please, no more divisive governing and more co-operation on all sides.

  3. A nice little visit to this wonderful site every single morning is how I began to evolve in 2020. That turned into a reading extravaganza.

Then you authored, Cerabral Palsy, A Story; Finding the Calm After the Storm, a book that bleeds of mindfulness. And now another book is forthcoming, which promises to be a best seller.

I am so happy for you, the real you exists here, but I'm not going to let you see me cry. This is what I'm reflecting on today.

    1. Thanks Tim. When you say 'the real you exists here' well deduced. Through my writing, I am able to be me for the first time.

I cried internally for many years, hoping and praying my life would change and that finally I would get to find out. I bore my struggles well.

Growing up with no understanding of what you have and why you struggle isn't something I would wish on anyone. I needed to know, to understand, and the only way I could do that was to write about my disability in the whole was to write in a self-contained place, with no interruptions.

It's a basic right to know what you deal with. Someone else would have done the exact same thing, if the shoe were on the other foot.

Knowing what I know about my disability and my life, has changed my life, rightly so. I am happier for knowing. It is right.
