Taking a trip out in the car before lockdown, it was evident and clear to see that society hasn't changed in the pandemic, the streets were full, with no social distancing and no masks being worn.

It is obvious why the infection rate is going up and why the virus is still spreading. There must have been around 200 people out and only three people with masks on.

The UK third 'lockdown'

Now the UK is in lockdown for the third time, With the UK Government's 'party first ideologies,' on our part, we should continue to mask up. My mask protects you, your mask protects me should still continue.

Without each of us wearing a mask, we are not protected. For us to stay protected, out of harm's way and to reduce Covid, we should mask up and should continue with social distancing. It's madness not to, because we're putting ourselves and others at risk, including loved ones.

Masks should be mandatory

It should be mandatory for us all to mask up when out in public spaces, including parks and public spaces. It shouldn't matter that we can’t see the virus or understand how it spreads. It isn't a hoax. Where others need convincing, it can happen, when Covid touches them, or their family.

The UK Government

And where we wish the government had made different decisions, we are here. This needs to be our turning point. The government needs to have appealed to people's sense of right and wrong for them to achieve the desired outcome.

We are more likely to conform, when we understand why we're being asked what we're being asked and everyone is following the same advice. It's clear it hasn't happened. It's 'hands, face, space.'

  1. I am increasingly exasperated with some peoples' behaviour to the pandemic, which is clearly contributing to the ever increasing virus spread.

We have a collective responsibility to slow the transmission down, but far too many simply don't care to play their part in this. I went for a short walk today with a mask on. Looking around me, it confirms your observations.

Our thoughtless and irresponsible interactions have directly led to the out of control situation in the UK, so this current and likely protracted lockdown was inevitable.

With over 1000 deaths recorded today, we must get a handle on this awful disease and we all have a part to play in that.

    1. Thanks. Yes, where you say, 'we have a collective responsibility to slow the transmission down' - we absolutely do and must if we are to reduce the virus.

In the beginning of the pandemic the media picked up on one or two people who thought the pandemic was a hoax, it turns out those people died having ignored the messages that the pandemic was real and went about their business as normal.

Until people choose to accept we have the pandemic, they will always take risks. Now in lockdown it remains to be seen whether people will also take that seriously. It is not fair for those who are high risk, and for those who are following the rules.

The government didn't start well, but that isn't an excuse. We must all take responsibility for ourselves, to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
