I have learned the only one I can change is myself. I have wasted most of my life trying to change other people, when the reality is they will only change if they really want to.
It's beyond frustrating when you want to help someone and they refuse to do the right thing, even when it would save their own lives, as the current pandemic shows.
I find it hard to focus on myself seeing as I was brainwashed into being a 'people pleaser' and 'caretaker' for everyone else. It would be nice to be able to enjoy living my own life and not feel quite so guilty about it.
Thanks Randy. Yes, you can live your own life and you don't have to feel so guilty, you don't have to care as much, it depends on who you're caring for and whether they care for you.
Not caring so much doesn't mean you don't care about others, but it means you care about yourself and make time for you. Any people pleaser will tell you they will also find it hard, but sometimes for our sanity we must care less.
