Now the cold winter/fall weather and long dark days have arrived for most of us, you might find your indoor workout routine disrupted by a lack of motivation and outdoors, chilly winds or icy conditions.

Indoor Cycling

If you enjoy cycling but don't want to brave the cold weather, try indoor cycling. You can find stationary bikes at your local gym or invest in one for your own home. Ride at your own pace and challenge yourself with different resistance levels.

Running Alternatives

If you love cardio but you don’t fancy the thought of venturing out on a frosty morning. During the winter months you can get your heart pumping indoors with cardio workouts you can do at home, such as:
• Climbing stairs
• Jumping jacks
• Mountain climbers
• Skipping rope

Play

Chances are your family and family pets are getting a little stir crazy inside the house, too. Play with your kids or pets for another cardiovascular workout option. Whether it is a game of hide and seek or a family dance-off, playing together is a good workout and great fun.

Dancing

Dancing is a great way to get moving and have fun indoors. Whether you take a dance class, follow along with a dance workout video on YouTube, or just put on your favourite music, dancing can be a fun and effective way to burn calories and stay active.

If you prefer to workout in the comfort of your own home, there are plenty of workout videos available online or on DVD that can guide you through a variety of exercises. Whether you prefer strength training, cardio, or a combination of both, there are options available for all fitness levels and preferences.
