In 2022, and still in the throes of the pandemic, how is it possible that in the UK restrictions are lifted? The virus is continuing to spread with those who have previously caught the virus, getting reinfected.
Scientists in the UK have urged Downing Street to reconsider its actions to lift all restrictions since the decision could have an overwhelmingly damaging impact in England.
Since the 24th February 2022, the lifting of restrictions day, we have already seen an unprecedented number of new daily cases; reaching more than 100,000. (Source: bbc.co.uk)
For each of our protection, we should all continue to work on what the science and the scientists are telling us, that masks protect us from catching Covid. The most important measure is mask wearing.
Confined to our homes
For thousands of vulnerable people who continue to juggle their mental health with their physical health, they are now confined to their homes. By the UK lifting the very measures that have kept people safe, for those high risk, they have now lost their liberty. I am one of those people. We are also reminded about one article on the BBC news website, about an immunosuppressed young person, entitled, “How less restrictions means more restriction."
Questioning the unquestionable
Initially, when the UK government informed the UK it was lifting all precautionary measures, it was met with dismay from independent scientists. At the time other countries, such as Australia, Greece and Spain were also beginning to question why the UK PM, was taking such a measure. Many of you may be asking the same question. It is important to think about the virus
Whilst everyone agrees it is important to get on with their lives, to ignore the fact the virus exists, isn’t clever. When you read about the ever increasing rising cases in the UK, it is important to think about the virus, and to think about the risk of exposure to the virus. Continuing to wear a mask is a small price to pay, if it means it stops us from getting sick. At present, Covid is untreatable.
Getting into your lives with caution
It is important to go about your daily lives with caution. The more we don't wear masks, the more those who are vulnerable and high risk, may have to potentially remain in their homes.
Politics is a ‘messy business.' It is even messier, when it becomes obvious the decisions that have been taken throughout the pandemic, have very little to do with what is write for us. Masks can save people from getting sick.
