Our thoughts around cultural beliefs can be the catalyst for us holding on to negative emotions and struggling with anxiety. Those thoughts may tie us to a set of beliefs that don’t always form part of the spiritual process.

Letting go of conditioned beliefs

Walking this path, doesn’t always allow us to question why we’re taking that path, or whether that path will help us on our own inner personal journey. By letting go of conditioned thoughts through our cultural beliefs, we can let go of negative emotions and anxiety.

Channeling our inner thoughts

For us to take our own personal journey, we should learn to channel our inner thoughts, paying attention to what’s going on in our head, so that we become aware of our inner dialogue. It is important to get rid ourselves of our mental clutter and use our emotions in ways that allow us to get to know ourselves better.

Concentrating on the whole

Once you get rid of the mental clutter, you can concentrate on the whole. It is important to simply life, to remove the physical clutter, so that you can have better mental health. Bring empathy, tolerance and patience into the equation, so they become part of you and think about the invisible force that’s around you.

A sense of purpose

Feeling connected to something bigger than yourself, gives a sense of purpose and brings a sense of meaning into your life. When you understand that everything around you is aligned and you know that ‘things happen for a reason,’ you can begin to take control of that which is within your reach.

Being spiritual is a lifestyle choice that needs to be honed. Spirituality keeps our lives real and helps us connect with our higher selves. Learn to listen to that ‘knowing little voice’ and that should bring you the answers you need.

6 comments on “Reducing anxiety”

  1. I woke up this morning realizing I don't have any idea of what path I'm really walking, which means that I don't really have any direction right now, especially one that I would call my own.

I like to use the term 'rebel without a clue' seeing as I have always been fighting against doing what everyone else wanted me to do, even when it was something that would have been in my own best interests.

Self sabotage would be putting it mildly, seeing as not wanting to follow anyone else's path, up to and including my higher powers has created more anxiety than was really necessary.

The reality is that there is a lot I can do on my own to reduce my anxiety and of course I don't have any clue as to how to do these things.

I have a lot of choices to make since I know this will become a nightmare, but eventually it will work wonders in reducing the anxiety I have had to suffer through for such a very long time, by not following my own path.

    1. Thanks Randy. I love that you have eloquently answered yourself by explaining what you know you have to do. Now you just have to do it!

I understand your reluctance, but without doing the very thing that helps you move on emotionally and also help lessen your anxiety, you'll still be in the same position in a few weeks, months, even years.

Sometimes things are obvious to us, sometimes they're not, but we just have to have faith in ourselves and change certain aspects of our life.

Nothing is as scary as we think. The apprehension is what makes it so.

  2. I believe that we are more responsible for our anxiety than we realise and this means we are also responsible for addressing it too.

This realisation is the first step to listening to ourselves and taking control.

    1. Yes, you're absolutely right. Basically we're responsible for ourselves and as you say responsible for addressing our anxiety issues too.

As with everything unless we come to realise and bring understanding into the equation, nothing will change. We've also got to want to change.

  3. Getting connected to something bigger than us, is surely the key to reducing anxiety. It sort of takes the weight from ourselves to something more encompassing, more universal.

My longevity in this life may have something to do with my understanding of that.

    1. Thanks Tim. Yes, I agree. I think if more of us understood that, our attitudes to life and to each other would change.

Sadly, we've become more earthly than spiritual. Our lives have become based on material worth and not on our universal understanding.
