“Don't Just
Don't just learn, experience.
Don't just read, absorb.
Don't just change, transform.
Don't just relate, advocate.
Don't just promise, prove.
Don't just criticize, encourage.
Don't just think, ponder.
Don't just take, give.
Don't just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don't just hear, listen.
Don't just talk, act.
Don't just tell, show.
Don't just exist, live.”
Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
Being self-aware means understanding your own emotions, thoughts, and behaviour. It means taking responsibility for your actions and reactions, and examining your beliefs and values.
To become self-aware, you can start by:
Paying attention to your thoughts and feelings: Take time to reflect on your thoughts and emotions, and try to understand why you feel and think the way you do.
Identifying your triggers: Observe what situations and people make you feel uncomfortable or anxious and try to identify the underlying causes.
Examining your beliefs and values: Think about what you believe in and what values are important to you. Ask yourself why those beliefs and values matter and how they guide your behaviour.
Seeking feedback: Ask trusted friends and family members for honest feedback about how they perceive you and your behaviour. Listen openly and be willing to receive constructive criticism.
