My mum used to constantly quote the ‘Golden Rule’ saying, ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ She was right, the ‘Golden Rule’ should be applied to all aspects of our lives.

For example, helping an elderly neighbour, dealing with a family member, or a colleague at work. Following the ‘Golden Rule’ allows us to be kind and concerned for others, it helps us grow emotionally. It gives us a feeling of satisfaction that we’re helping others and generally making a difference.

Why use 'The Golden Rule?'

It shows others that you're prepared to put them first if they need you to. If applied on an everyday basis, the ‘Golden Rule’ can empower us to become better people. On a more global footing it can make our communities better places to live. It may always have a ripple effect on everything we do. It can also empower us to make better choices.

Using the ‘Golden Rule’ gives us more confidence to believe in ourselves and to find inner peace. It’s a lifestyle choice that can not only bring harmony into our lives, but into the lives of everyone we touch.

  1. My mother also said the same thing. She believed you treat people nicely it will come back to you in spades. Conversely she also said what goes around comes around. I also believe that.

  2. I too believe in applying the Golden Rule and it doesn't matter who or under what circumstances it may be.

I decide to live by a set of moral rules for my life and this decision is for me and not anyone else. I can sleep at night. I can close my eyes at night and not see only demons.

  3. My mother and grandmothers also used to tell us this... and I believe what you say in your post. Why can't others be nice and follow the golden rule?

You know those people that are mean for no reason. You can be the nicest person in the world and they would be mean to you for no good reason. It does start with us and I believe that you reap what you sew... what you give, you'll eventually receive.

I have seen this happen to one person in particular that was a bad person doing things to others and in the end they got what they gave!
