When I started writing and putting my story together, ‘My Story’ wasn’t going to be about blame, a kiss and tell story, what he said, what she said, what I said, it also wasn’t going to be a negative book.

A Review by Kissablysweetone

5.0 out of 5 stars

"Ilana Estelle was born the second of preemie twins. She was born an hour after her sister to be accurate. In birthing times for twins, an hour is like a lifetime. At a young age, Ilana knew she wasn't like other children. She wasn't sure why though.

Her parents were living in a time when things like Cerebral Palsy was kept hidden or "swept under the rug." Parents acted as though they should be ashamed. Ms. Estelle began to get some of the answers 46 years later. This book is heart-breaking, sweet, informative and necessary. I found Ms. Estelle to be very honest about what she went through as a child.

Her explanations and information is written in an easy to understand way. The information is a little shocking too.

This book gives you the whole story, not just bits and pieces. Ms. Estelle shares how she and her family deal with the information and how it affects her life. I found no issues. I gave this, one 5 cheers, out of 5 because it's so well written and needed." - Kissablysweetone

Throughout my life and my 'book journey' I have sought to understand. If someone were to read the book and think otherwise, they wouldn’t be reading the book I wrote.

My parents made their choices for me. Around my mental and emotional disability they chose to neglect my needs. That is something I have to reconcile. I didn’t get what I needed. Would I have wanted my life to be different? Yes, but spirit has taught me resilience. There is no excuse on the behaviour. I know that if it wasn’t for the life I’ve had there would be nothing for me to write about in that sense.

I would like to wake up and not to have to think about or deal with trauma around neglect, cerebral palsy and autism. Although I embrace certain aspects of autism, it is difficult to conduct relationships around it. Through autism, I struggle with concerns and worry over the things I have no control over.

  1. I have been trying to figure out what the intention of the book that I wanted to write was, but that seems to be a very complicated question in and of itself. People hardly seem worthy of my time and effort to help them on one hand but I know that there are worthy people out there.

You did a wonderful job on writing your book which I'm sure I will need to read again, seeing as it has been a while and I have these wonderful memory issues!

I know that realistically most of what happened during my childhood won't make a lot of sense but I can attempt to bring some order to it.

Thanks for being such an amazing inspiration to me and truly such a great friend.

    1. No thank you... Randy, for all your support. I couldn't do what I do without you.

Thank you also for your sentiments on 'my book' - I love that you love the book. Yes, it's one of those memoir/self-help/mind-body-spirit book that you can go back to.

A part memoir/part motivational guide, it's a book that you can open at any page and at any time. You can read it as many times as you like.

Like you, I also believe there are good people out there. My experiences show the opposite, but I will always choose to see and know that there is good in the world.

  2. On my bookshelf your book sits, nestled beside my favorite authors.

That's how I preserve its respect. Awesome job, Ilana.
