Even though we are now officially out of lockdown, I am still staying home. When I go out for a walk, I shall continue to wear a mask. The old life I had is gone. Whilst people are now going about their lives, I hope they will give a thought for those who are still high risk and vulnerable to Covid-19.

The truth is that whilst we think we’re okay, scientists say we can still have Covid-19, even though we may have no symptoms. As of the 3rd January 2021, with 127,620 deaths in the UK having been reported to the WHO, Covid-19 is still continuing to spread (Source: https://covid19.who.int)

The UK is now classed as an endemic. The fear of me coming down with the virus isn’t something I struggle to deal with, it’s something that will still affect us all. It is important we continue to be mindful of how we go about our lives.

  1. I understand when you say your old life is gone. All the things you used to do, you're not able to do now with ease.

With Cerebral Palsy, you are high risk so you have to put your health first and wearing a mask and you minimising interactions is sensible. I firmly believe the worst of the pandemic is behind us here in the UK, as infection and death rates have plummeted since the last lockdown and the successful vaccine rollout.

We are still at risk from variants originating from abroad and that is the biggest challenge now facing us. I am optimistically looking forward to life much more, than I ever have for the last 18 months.

    1. Thanks. Yes, the UK is doing well. The government have done well getting on top of the problems with the virus, but mistakes have been made and there are one or two issues with certain of the vaccines.

Whilst I am high risk, and we still have the pandemic, I have made a decision not to get into my old life for now and am happy with that decision. With autism I struggle mentally and emotionally, made worse because I have a tendency to overthink things.

I too am looking forward to the time I can get back into my 'new normal' life and not think about the virus. It's taken just under a year to get my head around the fact that the virus was here. Not great.
