Antimonium Tartaricum, also known as “Ant Tart”, is commonly used in homeopathy and and has many uses.

Antimonium Tartaricum uses

Antimonium Tart 30 is used to treat patients who are suffering with Bronchitis. Symptoms include a rattling and wheezing cough and a build up of mucus in the chest. The patient may have episodes of coughing, together with shallow breathing that tends to alternate.

The patient may also feel sweaty and have a temperature. The patient feels weak to the verge of fainting. Coughing may become a problem where fatigue sets in, so the patient is unable to cough up any mucus. The cough may produce vomiting. Children with this illness find it hard or near to impossible to swallow and may also feel pain as a consequence of having to swallow.

Ant  Tart can also be used as a remedy for chicken pox and works especially well before the symptoms have presented themselves. It can also be used for headaches where the pain feels as though it forms a tight band around the head and the eyes feel better when closed.

Lastly, Ant Tart can be used for colds, which produce excess mucus that tends to go straight on to the lungs. The patient may also feel weak and finds it hard to breath.

Seek professional help

As with all homeopathic remedies it is advisable to seek advice from a qualified Registered Homeopath to make sure that the remedies used fit the symptoms fully.

  1. Leaving a comment in case this can help someone. My 7 year old son has had a lingering cough for 3 weeks.

It now sounds wetter and deeper, whereas last week it was drier and more croup-y sounding. We tried Von Boenninghausen's croup recipe of Aconite, Spongia, Hep Sulph, which did help after an initial brief aggravation.

This evening his cough was non-stop, phlegmy sounding (but with no expectoration), spasmodic. I gave Ant Tart 30c and to my great surprise, the spasms stopped within a minute. The cough has calmed considerably and I am curious to see where we're headed.

    Thanks for this information.

    1. Hi Carrie and welcome to the site and for your comment. I also use homeopathy and believe in the merits of the body healing itself through homeopathy.

With homeopathy it can be trial and error, but through understanding of how homeopathy works, and which remedy might work best for us, given our personalities, I believe it works.

As you have proved with your son it does work. It's important we make sure we administer the right remedy for the condition we're treating.
