When It Was Never About Misunderstanding

It’s easy to comfort ourselves with the idea that being misunderstood causes most of our pain: that people simply don’t see our side, that our words were lost somewhere between what was said and what they heard.

But sometimes, it isn’t about misunderstanding. It’s about truth. There comes a moment in emotional healing when you see it’s what the truth asks of you once you see it.

Others See It Too

There is so much out there – so many stories, voices, and versions of truth. Everyone carries their own lens, their own reasons for remembering things the way they do.

People know what they know. They saw the same moments you saw, they heard the same words, they felt the same silence. Yet, they often choose the version that protects them best.

So, the stories change shape. And in their retelling, you’re slowly recast in different ways.

This is one of the hardest realities in self-awareness – recognising that sometimes, it's conscious avoidance that hurts us the most.

The Freedom in Letting Go of Their Version

There’s a peace in recognising this – not because it makes it right, but because it frees you from the endless work of explaining yourself. You no longer need to explain yourself, revisit the story, or worry about how you’re seen.

This is the quiet act of letting go of others’ perception – and beginning the deeper work of finding peace after conflict.

You know what you know.

If This Affects You, You’re Not Alone

If you’ve ever felt rewritten in someone else’s story, know that you’re not alone. Healing doesn’t always come from being understood – sometimes it comes from understanding yourself.

When you stop chasing their version of events, you start writing your own – a story built on self-validation, truth and the strength of seeing clearly.

A Quiet Truth

The truth might not always set others free, but it can set you free. And that freedom – quiet, steady, and grounded – is where real emotional healing begins.
