Losing my twin in the pandemic has had a profound effect on me, a loss that has deeply affected every aspect of my life. The absence of my twin has left a significant void, one which I am struggling to fit back into.
The Loss of my twin has brought about stress and uncertainty
Losing my twin in the pandemic has brought more distress and uncertainty. With autism, it's left me mentally struggling, wanting as I am made to come to terms with a life without her. It has added layers of stress, and isolation that has exacerbated feelings of depression that weren't common place before. I am lonely. A part of me is missing. Those who are a twin will know just what that means or feels like. I never imagined a life without her. Now I have no choice.
Twin Loss
Grieving the loss of a loved one, especially a twin, is a deeply personal journey and finding ways for me to to keep my twin's memory alive is an essential part of my healing. No matter the relationship, love transcends physical boundaries. The bond we share with those we have lost, through healing for both, continues to shape us long after they've gone.
Mental Health Support
Navigating my life with autism already presented a unique set of challenges, without my twin it's much harder. If you are struggling, please remember that it is okay to ask for help. Having a support system in place can make a significant difference. Practice self-care strategies such as mindfulness, take regular exercise and engage in activities you enjoy, because those can help symptoms of anxiety and depression.
