Over the two years we’ve been living with Covid-19, I have continued to write about the pandemic, just so I lower my anxiety. Throughout I continued to hope, the UK government would continue to keep measures in place, so that we could all stay safe. For Boris Johnson 'it's a moment of pride.' (Source: https://uk.news.yahoo.com) I am baffled by his remark.
Covid-19 Vaccines
Right now, we have vaccines that don't fully protect, which means you can still catch and spread Covid. The vaccine doesn’t also give full immunity, and doesn’t fill the original brief that the vaccines protect, which is the initial reason why we were all asked to roll up our sleeves.
Loss of liberty
I wanted to believe the government had my back and that living with a disability in Covid was going to be okay, but now with restrictions lifted, thousands of disabled people who deal with a disability, and who care about their health, are losing their liberty. On the 1st April Covid tests will also stop, apart from 75-year-olds, 12+ vulnerable children and the immunocompromised.
We're told, the vaccine roll out is to continue, but without the test you may still catch and spread Covid with the vaccine, so that doesn't help. You could be standing next to someone in a queue and still catch Covid, with the vaccine, and not know.
Lifting restrictions means it will be too late to pull back
Lifting all restrictions will mean that if anything should happen once restrictions are lifted and cases begin to rise, it's too late to pull back, to help those who weren't infected and who later become infected.
It will be 'our fault'
The government are going with, it will be 'our fault' because we have the responsibility of keeping ourselves safe. Lateral flow tests have also been stopped, which means the government won't know how many people become routinely infected.
It also means the authorities and scientists will continue to go to ground, which is what we've seen happen over the course of the pandemic. It's a lose lose, situation for the vulnerable.
The vulnerable continue to be exposed
It means the very vulnerable will continue to be exposed and if they're not, it's because they have chosen to stay home, to keep safe. The UK government's choices certainly don't fit my needs.
You can't expect to continue to vaccinate without an expiry or cut off point. I couldn't start the process for that reason. I have friends on vaccine number 4. There are so many questions that need answers.
The issues for the Independent Scientists
The independent scientists are under an enormous amount of pressure, given the 'pandemic has ended,' or at least talking about the fact that 'it is ended.' They have been silenced throughout this whole process.
We hadn't until yesterday seen or heard from the UK government scientists. At the PM's press conference, they fell short of calling the government out and have again asked that we continue to follow 'the precautionary measure' rules.
It's time to find a solution that fits all
My only hope is that once the restrictions are permanently lifted, cases will rise and Councils who are monitoring any changes, can start to make common sense decisions moving forward. I am finding it difficult to comprehend that the reason I am 'home' is because the government have decided to lift restrictions, rather than find a solution that can help us all get back into our lives comfortably, and safely.
Under the UK Government’s watch, and following their advice, too many have died from Covid. It remains to be seen what will happen when restrictions are lifted completely on the 24th February.
A note to ponder, the UK is the only country lifting restrictions. Currently, the Scottish and Welsh Parliaments, do not agree with the UK Government's decision.

It is ridiculous that the UK PM is dropping all restrictions, I am in no doubt, it will obviously backfire. People are ignoring the obvious, simply on the basis that if they can't see the problem means it doesn't exist.
I have dealt with this attitude for most of my life; physically I look perfectly normal but my mind doesn't work right. My parents were experts at pretending nothing was wrong.
Chances are that this decision is only going to make things worse for you and everyone else in the UK. We can only hope and pray that things actually get better, as soon as possible, despite the ignorance, for all of your sakes.

I agree with you when you say: 'this decision is only going to make things worse' I am hoping so, primarily so common sense prevails.
Truthfully, I am now home. I go out for a walk with a mask and in the hair salon I wear a mask and visor. Anything resembling a normal life has gone. I don't know how other vulnerable people are managing.

In the UK, the Conservatives are putting political expediency first because of 'Partygate' and the spiralling increases in the cost of living and this has created a feeling out there that we are through the pandemic as that suits their political agenda.
The public have tended to ignore safety measures because the politicians who introduced them ignored them, so why should they not ignore them too?
The PM has been questioned under caution by police about this. It's certainly been a case of do as I say, not as I do.
Lifting of all precautionary measures means those who are vulnerable, or clinically vulnerable and those who live with someone vulnerable or clinically vulnerable, means they can't venture out of their homes. It's not just the vulnerable or clinically vulnerable.
If measures had have been retained such as mask wearing, then I might have been able to leave the house and have a life, but that's not looking likely anytime soon.

It is up to any residing government to keep those they work for safe. As a result of restrictions being lifted, I now wear a mask and visor when I go out. Out today, I would say there were around 20% of people still masking up.
