Everybody is feeling it, no one is talking about it and it's the elephant in the room. Growth isn't found in comfort and we very rarely learn through comfort.
The pandemic has highlighted chasms, a difference between people, their view points and opinions. The pandemic is driving poor health and risk, through mental health.
We are all affected by the pandemic
We are all affected by mental health in the pandemic, including the disadvantaged, and those who are facing physical uncertainties. Also, affected are those with a pre-existing medical condition, and those who are cut off from family friends, who continue to be isolated... they are just some of the worst affected.
The pandemic inequalities
But the pandemic hasn’t just thrown up the different inequalities, when it comes to mental health, we may assume we have it in abundance until something happens, then we realise we don't and we may struggle to cope.
Putting mental health at the heart of our lives
We're not through the pandemic, and as a result the impact on mental health shall continue to run. We have an opportunity to put mental health at the heart of our lives, and to focus on mental health prevention. We should want to improve mental health and to stop disease. It needs to be at the heart of our decisions, in how we move forward.
Disparities of the pandemic
As we are continuing to see, the social and economic consequences are continuing to increase disparities and divisions in health further. Coming into the winter months, ehe virus is on the rise again and that is not helping with mental health, particularly for those still vulnerable and who are high risk.
Make mental health pivotal
Mental health needs to be pivotal and a top priority. Ignoring it means illness can find its way in. It is something we should all continue to work on, it's something we should all be proactive on.
For those who have worked hard on their mental health and understand their own needs, they probably just need a reboot and for those who haven’t, they should probably start to work on their mental health.
Attitudes and behaviour needs to change
It is important attitudes and behaviour change around mental health. Mental health is the best investment any of us can make for future health.
My books deal with mental health. You can grab paperback and Kindle copies on Amazon, or through the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle
We need to reboot our mental health, more than ever. Let's just talk about it and move towards a society which recognises and supports mental wellbeing as the norm not the exception.
I read a recent article which said that 9 out of 10 people in the UK who experience mental health problems, subsequently face stigma and discrimination as a result. This figure is nothing short of a disgrace.
As a mental health advocate Ilana, and as you have stressed here and in your books, we can have no health without mental health.
Why people don't want to join in the conversation and know about mental health to improve their wellbeing is simply a mystery to me. They should be reading your books, I hope they will.
Thank you. I hope they will pick up my books, they need to. What I find irritating is that people will spend money on 'things' but ignore their mental health, thinking 'things' will make them feel better.
My mum used to do that same thing. Retail therapy as it's called, isn't really retail therapy, because for 2 minutes you feel better, then you go back to how you previously feel before you bought new 'things.'
In the pandemic, mental health is literally in its boots. The stats on my mental health blogs is always a lot lower than on blogs, where I talk about other things.
It tells you people are not tapping into mental health and they need to. They need to be making every day a mental health day.
Having so many undisciplined people in my orbit during the height of Covid had me re-attaching the hinges to my brain.
Many people were maskless and care-free, while I was separating myself from the virus as much as possible. That was and still is a mental health challenge to this very day.
The virus hasn't gone away, in fact it's mutating, changing face. I am not going to swallow my common sense and pretend that life is back to normal.
Thanks Tim. I'm with you, but we're the minority now. The world has gone 'stupid.' Can't believe I just said that, but it's true. The truth is being ignored and non-truths are now vilified and have become the 'norm.'
But the science isn't going to change, because we don't want to hear what the science has to say. Facts don't change because we choose to ignore those. The UK papers are telling a different story about the virus.
According to the papers, we're being told the virus is reducing and yet the science and social media is telling a different story. Why are we choosing not to listen to the science?
Where we had test and trace, and we could monitor new cases, there is no clear way of monitoring new cases now. While people want their lives back (and I get that) without common sense and taking the necessary precautionary measures, if they catch Covid, their mental quality of life will be reduced.
As for mental health, it's not being addressed and applies to Covid. Catching Covid is a mental health issue. Having to deal with Long-Covid in many cases, is the mental health issue.
Any common sense I write through my blog, will be avoided, while the truth is being avoided. Not to the cost of me, because I live with truth, but to the cost of those who choose to ignore 'the truth.'
