The more I write about the wider world on my blog, the more it upsets me that the human species is responsible for a lot of what is happening out there.
Droughts are killing 'wildlife'
The drought we’re having is killing wildlife, the the natural world. Birds that frequent our gardens are gone, killed due to scorching weather that is down to climate change, down to us and that is having a knock-on effect on wildlife everywhere.
How many of us, hand on heart, really think about that? I do, I always have, which is why my blog is so widespread, I don’t just write about ‘me’ or my experiences, but I also write about the things that matter to me and the things that affect us all.
Garden 'birds'
As I look out to my garden, with my bird feeding station in full view, the garden used to be full of different domestic birds, now we’re lucky if we get a handful of birds frequenting the garden, and I am being generous on the handful.
Wildlife have no food
Having seen a recent photograph of an albatross feeding her baby plastic, the human species is responsible for this tragedy. As humans we are contributing to the destruction of our planet and are also responsible for the home of wildlife.
It is important to 'step up'
Ignoring the plight of wildlife and the natural world means we’re setting ourselves up to fail. As we ignore their plight, we are jeopardising the human species too. Please let's think about that.
Feeding 'birds in your garden'
We can all do small things. Feeding wildlife, allowing them to thrive in our garden, is the first step. It is because there are less open green spaces for them to forage, that we need to bring birds back into our gardens. By giving them a home, by feeding them, you're giving the surviving birds, another crack at life.
Thank you for highlighting this. When you understand every living thing is connected and we are all part of one ecosystem you will do whatever you can to conserve the natural world, while we still have a world to look after.
We have to want to care, so that we take of and preserve the natural world.
I hope more people will take this opportunity to think about wildlife. We should all be connecting with the world around us, rather than just connect with ourselves.
Without the natural world, the human species will also struggle to survive. A difficult concept to grasp, you are right, every living thing is connected and we are part of the same ecosystem.
