Watching my twin's declining health for 6 months, is the reason I sustained dental trauma two months after losing her. Mouth injuries are common around trauma. It's nearly a year since I lost my twin and I've had dental trauma for 9 months.

A dental plan to help with my recovery

Last Friday, after a second consultation with a new dentist, a plan was put in place to get me back on the road to health again. It's been 9 months since I sustained the injury and I am still struggling to break food down, to eat and to chew normally. When my mouth is relaxed, my top and bottom teeth don't meet. I have since lost a tooth close to the initial injury.

Hot and cold treatments

The last 9 months have been hell, literally. I'm not one for melodramatics, but the injury started with, what I was told by my previous dentist, a tight ligament, which resulted in continual shooting and stabbing pains in my mouth. Painkillers didn't work effectively, so I also had to resort to hot and cold treatments.

A tight muscle

It turns out it wasn't a ligament, as initially diagnosed, but a tight muscle which was causing the stabbing and shooting pains. I packed myself off to a neuro specialist who confirmed the tight muscle and after an x-ray, also diagnosed me with Eagle Syndrome. I was first diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia by a holistic practitioner but that turned out to be a red herring.

Am I better? No. But I am hoping the first visit to my new dentist will be the first step back to health. How do I feel? I'm not happy, drained from the mental trauma of my experiences, I need to take time for me.
