“The past, the present, and the future are really one: they are today,” – Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet Beecher's quote holds a profound truth about the nature of time. It reminds us that our existence isn't based on isolated moments but is an ongoing, interconnected journey. The past shapes who we are. Every experience, every decision, and every lesson we learn, lays the foundation for what we do presently. We carry the good and the bad, the memories and lessons in the unconscious, that continue to influence our thoughts, emotions and actions.

Our Choices 'Reflect' the Life We've Lived

The present is where we act, and we make choices, but those choices reflect the life we've lived; our experiences. The present connects the past with the future. Every moment we experience is a culmination of where we have been – and a stepping stone to where we are going. The choices we make today are shaped by yesterday. The future, although often uncertain, is deeply rooted in the past and the present. Everything we do today is shaped by our past. This is particularly poignant and true for me.

Conclusion

It is important to understand the connection, that time isn't something that can be divided into separate compartments. Instead, it's a place where past, present, and future merge into one continuous reality. Embracing this as truth helps us to live more consciously, but we should also remember what's gone before, learn the lessons of the past, so that we make the most of the present, allowing us to step into the future with renewed hope.
