How many people you might know who go through life whining, without actually doing anything to solve their problems?

If I have a problem, or I’m not happy about something I’ll try and fix it. Having been around people who continually whine, I'm learning to do things differently.

Whine never stops

Whining never stops. Even when I have tried to change the subject, another subject brings-up something else for them to whine about. Perhaps we need to focus on trying not to whine, in the same way we need to focus on refraining from other bad habits. Like everything else it’s a pattern, learned behaviour that needs unlearning and relearning again.

Replicating what you see

Whining is something we may see. From an early age we may copy what we see. If our parents’ whine, we might do the same. When the focus or attention, is about the person whining and not the initial problem, it makes it harder to solve the problem and achieve a positive outcome.

What they may not realise is, that when someone else has to listen to them, it’s horrible. Those who may whine don’t usually take an active role in solving their problems, they may just actively whine their way through them.

So, next time we're not happy about something, we should stand back and think about the problem. Perhaps focus on getting our point across, mediate and move on. Then we may begin to notice just how productive and successful we can be.

  1. I agree that being around people who whine instead of trying to solve their problems are rather a bad influence.

I suppose whining a little bit is acceptable as long as you still get up the next morning and try to fix your problems.

I hope you and your family are okay and everything went well with the op.

    1. I agree with you. If people whine and still sort out their problems there's probably little harm, although it can still be slightly infuriating.

I say that with the utmost respect and speaking from my own personal experience.

Thanks Anne, we're doing better. Thank you so much for asking.

  2. My daughter is a whiner to a certain extent and when I try to help her it gets worse!

She has a bad thing to say about every answer I give her. Well how about this, no that will cause this!! It's like a never ending cycle.

I guess I whine a little but I'm not as bad as I used to be. I've learned to deal with things better and accept life as is and to be happy! Live positively.

    1. I hear ya! I agree that we should all accept what happens in our life and be happy and positive as much as we can, or if we can't, at least try.

If we could, we probably wouldn't need to whine because all would be well with us and with the world.

  3. Yes, being around someone who is whining constantly can be a real drag after a while.

I used to be the one who would whine a lot when I was young, but then I learned it was a lot easier just to deal with problems on my own.

I lost that knack over the years and am now really trying to get back into that frame of mind.

I'm hoping and praying that I can continue to improve in that area so my life will truly get better!

    1. I am sure we've all whined a little bit in our lifetime! You moved on from there and learned to deal with your problems once before.

I have confidence that you'll manage to do it again.

  4. I haven't got much patience at the best of times and I can't stand people who whine. They really get on my nerves and I simply have no time for them.

Whining serves no purpose whatsoever, as it achieves nothing and more often than not its counter-productive as it's self reinforcing.

    Rant over.

    1. I understand your frustrations of being around people who whine. The problem is it's not so easy for people to change this kind of behavior.

I have to agree that it's counter-productive and serves very little purpose, particularly if it's something that's done all of the time. People will eventually stop listening.

  5. I have removed myself from all the negative people and have been developing a positive attitude.

I had a friend that passed away recently and she always had a positive attitude and lived an extraordinary life. She was and still is an inspiration.

    1. Over the years I have done that too and can understand why you decided to do the same. I am sorry to hear about your friend. I

It's lovely that your friend was and still is an inspiration to you. I am sure her being inspirational will stay with you and help you in your life. I don't believe these things ever leave us.
