I am sure many of us ask that same question, why do bad things happen to good people when they get caught up in unfortunate circumstances? We will all have different thoughts on this, but this is my understanding and belief.

It may look as if bad things happen to good people, but it’s not in the way we may think. The universe doesn’t act in that way. I believe what happens in the world and what we do to each other is often the reason why and that when someone good gets caught in something bad, it’s often because they’re in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We need to change the way we perceive and communicate with each other, the way we do things and the way we live our lives. We must live with compassion and strive for goodness. We need to instill kindness and be instrumental in helping each other. Whilst the world lives with anger, animosity and jealousy, bad things will continue to happen.

It’s not the universe using revengeful tactics to get back at the people we love. Inadvertently, we do that to ourselves because of the way we live our lives.

  1. I agree with you, but I also believe in the religion I am in. I believe we're put in certain circumstances to strengthen us and strengthen our faith in GOD.

    1. Thanks Lisa. There has always been a debate over this theory. It will probably continue to be debated.

I know that certain circumstances strengthen our resolve (I have had that with my family's assault), but the question still remains why GOD would want any one to struggle and suffer in this way, just to prove and put our faith to the test. There has to be other ways. I wouldn't want anyone to go through our experiences.

I believe we can believe in GOD without having to go through a test to challenge our faith. If we believe, we will continue to believe… I don't think that ever goes away. If anything our faith gets stronger as we get older.

I'm afraid that part will never make sense to me. I'm sure the debate will go on.

  2. I've always been of the opinion that if we did good deeds and if we were genuinely good people, we would experience good things sometime in this life or a future life. It is obvious to me that this world is not the place to receive awards for our goodness and our kindness. Life is too mysterious, we'll probably lose our minds trying to understand it.

My religion is to be a good person. Your third paragraph speaks volumes about how things should be and perhaps how things must be if this world is to survive.

    1. Thanks Tim. Your first paragraph resonates with me because I believe that if we are all genuinely good people, we would experience good things in this life and beyond and still believe it, even though we know that is not what happens.

Generally speaking we have seen (we only have to turn on the television to see) that religion unfortunately isn't based on good deeds, although there are some belief systems like spirituality, that does lend itself to being a good person and doing good deeds for others.

We can all learn to be good people, but I do think you're right, it is very hard for anyone to receive rewards for goodness and kindness in this world, particularly as it is, but if we we're ALL able to offer goodness and kindness, all of our lives would change for the better and that is what needs to happen.

  3. I have often asked myself this question, as my family have been through their fair share of pretty bad things, through no fault of their own, including premature terminal illness and serious assault.

I agree we ought to strive to be good to one another, but there will always be people in this world who, for whatever reason do not want to be good and go out of their way to inflict harm on others, in all manner of ways.

I firmly believe those people will be dealt with on the basis of 'what goes around comes around'. Nevertheless, at times it remains difficult to see the reasons why good people seem to suffer disproportionately.

    1. In your response you've answered your own thoughts on why good people seem to suffer disproportionately.
Unfortunately there are too many people who for whatever reason inflict harm, more than there are good people and that is why many innocent people are getting hurt.

What is happening in the world is very much disproportionate; we need a balance. Once the balance is redressed and is better, less good people will get hurt.
