In the early days of writing, I wanted to understand and explore my physical and mental and emotional symptoms, understanding what those meant meant for the first time I could understand me.
There is very little written about cerebral palsy, but since it is the least resourced condition and spoken about condition, it would be difficult for any specialist to really know how we may age with the condition.
My Physical Struggles
I struggle to open screw lids and bottles that I used to be able to open, including the inside of cereal packs. I also struggle to open car doors, and whilst that may not sound like a lot, it’s a concern for me, because I am wondering as I age, what other struggles I might struggle with.
My writing helps me to come to terms with a lot of what has happened in my life. My journey begins in my first book, Cerebral Palsy: 'A Story' Finding the Calm After the Storm and then continues through my spiritual and healing journey in 'Spirituality, Healing and Me.'
“Reflection is a process, that helps to create an internal space for exploring traumatic experiences, that have hurt and continue to hurt us.” – Ilana Estelle
For each of us to understand and come to terms with our experiences and to be able to move on with our lives, it is important to use reflection in our everyday lives.
